A Better Way
to Prepare Sperm

Natural. Simple. Effective.

VetMotl Sperm Separation Devices simulate the natural barriers of the cervical and uterine pathway that sperm must overcome to fertilize an egg. We enable separation of optimally functional sperm. VetMotl devices are a better way to prepare sperm for use in veterinary ART procedures. It’s that simple.

Easy to Adopt. Easy to Use.

Minimal training is required, with simple, standardized procedures that help users quickly achieve optimal performance.

Allow sample to liquify.

Draw semen sample volume for device input.

a) Achieve seal.
b) Slowly inject sample.

a) Prime outlet channel with media.
b) Cover membrane surface with media.

Incubate for 30 minutes.

Slowly aspirate sperm sample.

Our VetMotl Devices

Our VMB and VME portfolio of VetMotl devices deliver increased efficiencies in blast development and viable implantable embryos in equine and bovine ART procedures.

BOVINE

VetMotl Multi (850µL) Sperm Separation Device

VMB0850

The VetMotl Multi (850µL) Sperm Separation Device (VMB0850) prepares motile sperm from semen for use in bovine reproduction procedures – artificial insemination (AI), in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) – as well as for embryo transfers (ET). The VetMotl device accepts 850µL of semen sample input and yields 500µL of output volume for downstream use. VetMotl devices separate sperm based on motility.

BOVINE

VetMotl Multi (3mL) Sperm Separation Device

VMB3000

The VetMotl Multi (3mL) Sperm Separation Device (VMB3000) prepares motile sperm from semen for use in bovine reproduction procedures – artificial insemination (AI), in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) – as well as for embryo transfers (ET). The VetMotl device accepts 3mL of semen sample input and yields 1.0-1.5mL of output volume for downstream use. VetMotl devices separate sperm based on motility.

EQUINE

VetMotl Multi (850µL) Sperm Separation Device

VME0850

The VetMotl Multi (850µL) Sperm Separation Device (VME0850) prepares motile sperm from semen for use in equine reproduction procedures – artificial insemination (AI), in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) – as well as for embryo transfers (ET). The VetMotl device accepts 850µL of semen sample input and yields 500µL of output volume for downstream use. VetMotl devices separate sperm based on motility.

VetMotl devices can be used with fresh and frozen sample types: normal, low count, low motility (some motility is required), viscous, low volume, and a combination of the above.

  • Simple to adopt.
  • Ready to use.
  • Fewer movements per sample – reduced potential for error.
  • Improved protocol compliance.
  • Increased productivity.

How VetMotl Devices Work

  • The VetMotl Sperm Separation Devices have three major features: a sample inlet port, a sample outlet port/concentration chamber and a membrane filter.
  • A raw semen sample is injected into the inlet port.
  • The sample travels into the lower portion of the device, underneath a membrane filter that has micropores.
  • Fertilization media is placed on top of the membrane.
  • During incubation, progressively motile sperm migrate through the pores into the fresh media above.
  • They leave behind the less motile, morphologically abnormal sperm.
  • What is collected from above the membrane are healthy, motile sperm.

Frequently Asked Questions

We want you to use VetMotl devices to their fullest potential, helping both your lab and your customers. If you have questions about processing sperm samples with VetMotl devices, please check here to see if your question has been answered. If not, please get in touch with us and we will do our best to help.

Yes. When using a frozen sample, follow industry-recommended instructions on thawing the straw. Dilute the sample 1:1 with wash media. Mix gently by tapping the tube/vial and inject this diluted sample into the VetMotl device in the same manner as a fresh sample. Please see the Instructions for Use or ask us for more details.

We have not yet found a low concentration limit with the VetMotl devices, as long as there are some motile sperm in the sample.

Since a heat source is necessary, we highly recommend that VetMotl devices be incubated for 30 minutes.

The VetMotl device was designed and optimized with specific requirements for operation, as stated in the Instructions for Use. To date, all work performed in human, bovine and equine has been at 30 minutes. We have no data extended beyond 30 minutes. If you have further questions about this topic, we encourage you discuss this topic with a VetMotl company representative.

We do not require the use of a specific sperm wash media, but incubation conditions must be appropriate for the type of media being used. If using a bicarbonate-buffered media, VetMotl devices must be incubated in a humidified, gassed incubator. If using a HEPES-buffered media, VetMotl devices must be incubated in a humidified, non-gassed incubator.

We do not have any data to indicate that VetMotl devices remove viruses or bacteria from a sample.

No. VetMotl devices are made with certified sperm-safe materials, including the membrane filter. The device and membrane filter contain no drug or chemical treatment.

No. The VetMotl device does not remove extenders from a sample.

No. The VetMotl device does not separate or sort semen samples by sex. The VetMotl device separates healthy, motile sperm from non-motile sperm.

The VetMotl device has been proven highly effective in bovine and equine samples. Currently, we have no additional data on other species.

No. The VetMotl device is a sterile product for single-use only.
